Kaieteur Sports- A masterful second innings knock of 147 by Kirk McKenzie failed to keep the Jamaica Scorpions from a crushing 214-run defeat yesterday at the hands of the Guyana Harpy Eagles who wrapped up another comprehensive victory this season.

Sabina Park was treated to some fine cricket by both teams, most notably after the Champs posted 339 thanks to a ton from Kevlon Anderson.

Guyana’s fast-bowling duo of Ronaldo Alimohamed (6-17) and Nial Smith (4-21), then knocked over the Jamaicans for a measly 44 in their first innings.

Harpy Eagles would then stretch their lead to almost 500 after Anderson continued from his initial innings, scoring an even 50 batting again, while opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul led with a classy 74, as Guyana declared on 2nd innings 193-3.

The Scorpions had a much better attempt at 489 runs batting a second time, thanks to opening batsman McKenzie slamming his majestic century off 249 deliveries with 15 fours and 5 sixes.

West Indies ODI specialist Brandon King lent his experience as he cracked 8 fours in his 53, sharing a century partnership with McKenzie which almost revived the Scorpions innings.

After their dismissal on the final day, the Scorpions pair of Javelle Glenn (14) and Brad Barnes (25) hung around but failed to get anywhere close to the target, thanks to 7 wickets shared between their ace spinners.

Left-arm veteran spinner Veerasammy Permaul claimed (3-50) while Gudakesh Motie finished with five wickets after, adding 4 wickets to his lone first innings scalp.

Fast-bowler Alimohamed missed out on a 10-wicket haul, but bowled well for his 2nd innings 3-42 which lent ideal support to the spin twins.

Following another outright win, Guyana will return home for their next match against the Windward Islands which bowls off at Providence from Wednesday, March 12 2025.
