GFF President sends condolences to family of late former national coach Clarence Madramootoo
Kaieteur Sports – Guyana Football Federation (GFF) President Wayne Forde has extended heartfelt condolences to the family of former national coach Clerance Clifford Madramootoo who passed away on November 14 at his residence in New Amsterdam, East Berbice-Corentyne.
“On behalf of the football fraternity, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to
Clarence Clifford Madramootoo’s bereaved family and friends. His steadfast passion and commitment as a football ambassador have etched an indelible mark on the football landscape in Guyana. His notable influence in Berbice and on the national stage attests to the profound impact he made in the beautiful game,” Forde shared on November 14.
Fondly referred to as “Fuzzy,” Madramootoo was born on February 25, 1946 and had his initial encounter with football as a young man in Berbice. One of his noteworthy accomplishments was guiding the Berbice senior team in a match against the touring Russian Textile Union Team in 1978 at the Albion Sports Complex.
Following his playing days with Berbice, he seamlessly transitioned into coaching, taking charge of the Guyana Inter-Guiana Football Squad in August 1979. He later assumed leadership of the national under-20 team in 1980, and despite the team’s exit from the CFU youth championship at the hands of Suriname, his commitment to nurturing young talent remained unwavering.
Seven years later, in 1987, Madramootoo took on the role of national coach for the Shell Caribbean Cup, guiding a predominantly young team through numerous challenges. He also coached the Guyana Defence Force First Division team.
But his influence transcended coaching, as he played a crucial role with the Guyana National Service (GNS) Ajaxs in 1987.
Forde noted that “it is stalwarts like Madramootoo who propelled the game forward in Guyana out of love for a sport that positively impacts the lives of young people while uniting communities.”
Adding: “Our thoughts and prayers are with Madramootoo’s family during this difficult time of bereavement. His name will always be linked to youth football development,”
