Kaieteur News – Heavy winds on Friday left five families in the Amerindian Village of Aishalton, Region Nine homeless.
Regional Chairman of Region Nine, Bryan Allicock, said that the storm occurred at around 22:30 hrs on Friday.
According to Allicock a total of six houses containing five families were affected. Kaieteur News understands that 13 adults and 22 children were left homeless.
In a release on Monday night, the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) said that along with Regional Authorities they conducted a damage assessment and as a result of the assessment, the CDC dispatched food hampers, tarpaulins, hammocks and cleaning hampers to the impacted residents.
According to the CDC, a team is currently in Aishalton to conduct additional assessments to provide further assistance.
It was noted that the Region is being monitored closely for more high level winds and flood impacts as the rainy season continues.
