Dem Boys Seh…
Kaieteur News – De governments – both de Pee Pee Pee CEE and de A Pee N U and A F Cee – have created a monster in Guyana. It is called illegal roadside and pavement vending. And now de monster turn back pun de governments.
Ole people does say that when yuh turn a blind eye to something, it does turn back and juk out yuh eye. Dat is what is happening today with de illegal vendors. Dem deh illegally but now dem want talk about de right to earn a livelihood.
Armed with their makeshift stalls and at times not- so-makeshift stalls, the illegal vendors have come to believe that they are entitled to occupy public road reserves and pavements as if it was their birthright. Dem proudly assert that illegal vending is their livelihood, conveniently forgetting that livelihoods ought to be built upon something called legality.
Dem argue that removing them from public roads would infringe upon their rights, as if the right to obstruct traffic and squat were enshrined in the constitution. Perhaps next, they’ll demand de right fuh set up shop on the moon. But let us not forget dat no one has the right to break the law. Laws are the threads that weave together the fabric of a civilized society.
Is a strange thing in Guyana. When yuh want see a Minister yuh does gat to mek appointment. But if yuh break de law by engaging in illegal vending and keep a lot of noise when de authorities try to enforce de law, you nah gat to mek no appointment fuh see Minister. Dem Minister coming fuh see you. So let us take stock of what we are doing. As ole people say, where lawlessness is exalted, and absurdity reigns, disorder and chaos rules supreme.
