GPL signs non-binding MoU to explore grid upgrade projects
(Kaieteur News) – The Guyana Power and Light Incorporated (GPL) on Tuesday signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pacific and Auro Power Inc., a joint venture between a local and a multi-national company, to explore potential upgrades to the national power distribution network.
In a statement, GPL said that the MoU establishes a non-exclusive framework for the two entities to identify, evaluate, and develop power sector infrastructure projects in Guyana.
“It does not commit either party to finance or undertake any specific project but outlines a process for jointly identifying and assessing priority projects for possible future development,” GPL said.
GPL Team Leader Kesh Nandlall signs the MoU in the presence of Divisional Director Ryan Ross and Deputy Chief Executive Officer Bharrat Harjohn and other officials.

Under the agreement, GPL and Pacific and Auro Power Inc. will explore opportunities across transmission and distribution infrastructure, substations, power generation, renewable energy, battery storage systems, and grid modernisation. Each proposed project will undergo separate technical, financial, commercial, regulatory, and corporate evaluations before any move to implementation.
GPL described the MoU as part of its broader push for strategic partnerships to expand and modernise the country’s electricity infrastructure, with future investments aligned to Guyana’s long-term energy priorities. The company said it remains committed to strengthening the resilience and sustainability of the national grid in support of continued economic growth.
