Kaieteur News – Thirty-three-year-old Roseann Skeete-Ally, a former teacher and now a stay at home mom of two boys, launched her business, ‘Zashrose Sweets’, which offers a variety of decorated sugar cookies, donut holes, cupcakes, pan size chocolate chip cookies, small cakes and more.
During an interview with The Waterfalls, Roseann shared that before she started a family she always had a passion for cooking and baking. This she said, led her to her attending classes at the Carnegie School of Home Economics and certifying herself in home economics.
She explained that her main calling was being a teacher, which she absolutely loved. However, she later left the profession to stay at home and care for her two sons.
“Being at home and being someone who likes doing any and every thing I decided to start my business. Decorating sugar cookies is something I totally enjoy, so, it was a sure thing. This gave me the opportunity to care for my boys and still be independent while achieving my own dream,” Roseann said.
The stay at home mom and businesswoman added that her inspiration for starting my business came from her parents, who are business owners.
She stated that while growing up assisting her parents in the shop served as a stepping stone and motivated her to establish her own business.
She disclosed that her decorated sugar cookies are the most popular item on the menu. In fact, she stated that when she started her business on May 26, 2021, the decorated sugar cookies were the very first item on the menu.
She explained that the name of her business, ‘Zashrose Sweets’ is a combination of the names of each member of her family.
Roseann added that her business have since catered for birthday parties, weddings, baby gender reveal parties, henna nights, and special holiday events, promotion parties, and anniversaries and many other events.
‘Zashrose Sweets’ is a home-based business which is located in Enmore, on the East Coast of Demerara.
According to Roseann, the business offers delivery or pickup in Georgetown. The business is opened daily from Monday to Saturday.
“My long term goal is to make my business bigger and to continue being a success but I’m taking it one step at a time and enjoying the journey. I’ve been lucky to meet so many interesting people along the way. I love being a teacher and I hope to return back to work when my boys are older, however, having this business is a dream come through,” Roseann said.
