Kaieteur News – The immensely talented National U-15 Selectee, Adrian Hetmyer, was born on March 10, 2009 in the Village of Canefield, Canje, East Berbice and says his ultimate goal is play Test cricket.
Hetmyer is one of six Berbicians in this year’s Guyana squad for the Regional U-15 cricket tournament which is scheduled for Grenada from August 18, 2022 to August 28, 2022.
The Guyana team is captained by Dave Mohabir from City side, Transport Sports Club (TSC) while his brother, Alvin is the Captain of the National U-17 & U-19 teams.
This is the first time in the history of Regional Youth cricket that siblings have captained their Country in all three tournaments in the same year.
The inaugural tournament was held in 1996 in Jamaica when Trinidad & Tobago won the first Title.
Hetmyer’s parents, former National youth batter Seon Hetmyer and Lisa Allen, sent their son to the Berbice Education Institute (BEI) but he did not play cricket at school.
Life was good growing up for the 13-year-old who spent a lot of time with his grandparents.
Hetymer, who now has two sisters and a brother since his mom give birth to girl recently, also enjoys playing Football.
His father who played five years at the Regional youth (1 U-15, 1 U-17 & 3 U-19) said cricket runs in the family.
“We would normally play in our yard or he would hit ‘ball in socks’ when there was nobody there to bowl to him,” explained Seon, who scored one of the most elegant U-19 centuries against Trinidad & Tobago in the 2008 tournament in Barbados.
Young Hetymer, the nephew of Shimron Hetymer, came to prominence on January 9 of this year when he scored his first century as a 12 year-old; 121 off 138 balls with three fours and two sixes for Rose Hall Canje against Edinburgh Warriors in the BCB’s Tenelec U-15, 50-over competition.
Young Hetmyer, who also bowls medium pace, has added two more centuries to his name and now joins his Dad and uncle as those in the Hetmyer clan to represent Berbice and Guyana at the Regional U-15 level.
“Coach Ameer, myself, his Grandparents and his club members have been the people to have helped in Adrian’s cricket development,” disclosed the 31-year-old Seon, who is a bit unfortunate not have played First-class cricket despite scoring heavily in the GCB/Jaguars 3-Day League.
Seon scored a century against Georgetown and 215 against West Berbice and many felt he was a better and more elegant batter than his more illustrious younger brother as teenagers.
“We are very proud of Adrian and hope he can stay focused as he represents his Country for the first time,” added Seon who thanked those who have presented his son with cricket gear.
