Kaieteur News – For two weeks, the Guyana Tennis Association (GTA) executed an exceptional tournament at the GBTI Tennis facility. The tournament brought together the community in larger numbers since the COVID-19. There was spectacular play from veterans and the new crop of juniors.
The curtains came down on the 13th annual GBTI Open Tournament in style and had representation from both the bank and the association.
Marketing Manager Ms. Pamela Binda emphasized that GBTI and the GTA’s decades of partnership shows that the bank is supportive of youth development in not only sport but all sectors and the bank is consistent with their corporate social responsibility as evident in 42 years of partnership in the tennis community.
She also noted that the bank is pleased to see the tournament is expanding to include participants from the US, Canada and Mexico.
President Cristy Campbell expressed gratitude on behalf of the GTA and the entire tennis fraternity to GBTI for another year of sponsorship and good relations. She noted that the sponsorship is not limited to the GBTI Open tournament but also free access to the tennis facilities for our top players to train throughout the year and full funding of the Diamond annual tennis camp.
The closing ceremony had several members of the bank and GTA including Ms. Nadia Sagar, Corporate Secretary of GBTI, VP of GTA Surrendra Khayyam, Treasurer Ramesh Seebarran and Renate Jordan.

Ladies’ Open – Winner: Renola Jordan Runner-up Saskia Persaud
Men’s Doubles – Winner: Leyland Leacock/Gavin Lewis Runner-up: Donnie Anderson/Gerald Scotland
Boys Singles – Winner: Gerald Scotland Runner-up: Hayden Mentore
Girls Singles – Winner: Paula Kalekeyzi Runner-up: Renola Jordan
Mixed Doubles – Winner: Leyland Leacock/Kizzy Richmond Runner-up: Donnie Andreson/Renola Jordan
Novice Men – Winner: Harvey Stole Runner-up Ridhwaan Kasim
Novice Ladies – Winner: O’Kesha St. Kitts Runner-up Kadija Fyffe
Novice Medley – Winner: Harvey Stoll/Karen Hulefeld Runner-up: O’Kesha St. Kitts/Ridhwaan Kasim
35s Singles – Winner: Ronald Murray Runner-up: Andre Erskine
