Bidders outplay Cats and Big Landing to capture $100,000 Linden Town Week Dewars dominoes final
In a strong finish, Bidders with 75 games staved off a surging Big Landing and Cats both finishing on 68, to emerge as champions of the Ansa McAl Trading Inc. sponsored Dewars Linden Town Week dominoes tournament when the final was played Sunday night outside Speedy’s Juice Depot on the Wisroc/Amelia’s Ward Car Park.

But the second place was taken by Cats on the fact that they scored more Fives in this final, after they were level on sixes.
The riveting final ended with victory for Bidders, who led throughout the first four sittings but were pushed to second place on 60 games when the fifth sitting ended, by a rebounding Big Landing who positioned themselves ahead on 63 games as last tournament winners Cats were in third place with 57 games.
But Big Landing were held to just five games in that final sitting and guided by Jevon ‘Massive’ Allicock and Ian Bacchus who both marked six games in that final sitting as they pulled away comfortably to reach 75 games, as Cats and Big Landing closed out with 68 games apiece.
Allicock for his steady play marked 17 games in the final was adjudged the Player of the Tournament and received the Attorney-at-Law Candacy Welcome Trophy.
Tyrone Perry of Cats, later named the Most Valuable Player of the final, played excellent dominoes marking the maximum 18 games in the final but his efforts were in vain. He collected the Marlon Fields Trophy for winning that award.
While Allicock got the top score for Bidders with 17 games, Ian Bacchus marked 14 and Kelvin Hooper 12 for the winners as Big Landing’s Rampersaud also marked 12 games and won the Marlon Fields Trophy for sharing the tournament’s first love in the final.
The winners walked away with $100,000 and the Dewars Trophy, while the second place finisher Cats got $50,000 and a trophy and third place finishers $30,000 and also a trophy.
Gerry Faucet won the Marlon Fields Trophy for sharing the first ‘love’ of the tournament as June Cummings received the Best Female Player Award.
The presentation of prizes was made by organizer of the competition Oswald ‘Speedy’ Charles at the end of the tournament.
