The Guyana International Kyokushinkai Martial Arts Academy at the year 2019 was once again on a very high note for the organisation.

Shihan Nazim Yassim and team of black belts along with Shihan Khedeo from Suriname and Prof: Christopher Norville.
With a simple ceremony, on Sunday December 29 last, 11 students along with two Masters N. Khedeo (of Suriname) and Christopher Norville (of Guyana) received their certificates from Shihan A. Nazim Yassim.
The 11 students of Shihan Yassim competed their exams in October last, they were:
From 3rd to 4th Dan black belts…Sensei Kelvin Walcott and Sensei M. Lynda Yassim.
From 2nd to 3rd Dan black belt…. Maranda Bennett and Tadious Edun.
From 1st to 2nd Dan black belt…. Vikash Samwaru and Umisha Parasram.
From 1stKyu brown belt to 1st Dan black belt… Ravi Samaroo, Bisram Ramnarain, Gonvid Ramkuar, Parashuram Persaud and Shakeel Rahat.
These are all registered and certificated members of the International Kyokushin Budokai Kan Federation (IKBKF) and the Kyokushin Schools of Karate Worldwide Union (KSKWU).
Professor Nowieldath Khedeo, (of Suriname) and Prof; Christopher Norville, (of Guyana) received their certificates from the International Kyokushin Budokai Kan Federation (IKBKF).
Shihan Yassim congratulated his students on their achievements in obtaining their black belt certificates in Kyokushin-kai karate.
Noting that it was not an easy journey, he also noted that he was not an easy person to deal with at times….And furthermore, extend his appreciation to his students for their patience with him, and for the hard work that they have put in, and are carrying out for the Academy, (Guyana International Kyokushinkai Martial Arts Academy) saying, Together with our members in different parts of Guyana, we will make Kyokushin-kai karate the biggest and strongest in our country, as it is in the world.
And to do this we have to continue to be loyal to Grandmaster Oyama’s Philosophy of…“Keep your head low (modesty), eyes high (ambition), mouth shut (serenity); base yourself on filial piety and benefit others.”
He urged his students to continue their daily training and hard work. With only one goal in mind, to be the best they can be and to make Guyana proud.
He said, “If you do not give up, your dream will definitely become true. However, a dream will not become true without a strong will and hard work” as he wished them good luck on their new journey.
Shihan Yassim closed the programme saying Kyokushinkai Guyana is steadily heading towards the future, with big dreams that nobody could stop. Together with you all, your hard work and Strong spirit, we will make our country Guyana a Kyokushin power in this region.
Generally Guyana International Kyokushinkai Martial Arts Academy, has done extremely well for 2019.
Having competed in 4 tournaments:
-Guyana International Kyokushinkai Martial Arts Academy National Martial Arts Championships May 19, 2019. Kyokushinkai Guyana Team: with 23 students won 45 Medals; 25 golds, 12 silvers and 8 Bronze.
-Shuriken Karate Suriname 5th International Karate Tournament August 19, 2019.
Kyokushinkai Guyana Team: with 5 students won 8 Medals; 7 goals, and 1 silver.
-The Guyana International Kyokushinkai Martial Arts Academy 7th Open International Martial Arts Championships 15th September, 2019.
With 28 students won 60 medals, 38 goals, 14 silvers, 6 bronze, and 2 4th place.
-The Guyana Mix-Martial Arts Karate Association in house karate tournament; at the end of September; GIKMAA with 4 students won a total of 7 medals 4 golds & 3 silvers
From these tournaments, GIKMAA won120 medals inclusive of: 74 = Golds, 30 = Silvers, 14 = Bronze. Also they had two 4th places.
Other Activities for 2019 were…A Health and fitness Walk, 2colored belts and 1 Black belt exams (All Students passed exams), 3 outdoor training sessions and 5 successful fund raising activities.
