Wellman Masters and Ogle registered victories when the New Airport bar hosted a softball festival on Sunday last at Ogle Commu
nity Centre ground, East Coast Demerara.
In the opening fixture, Wellman Masters defeated Regal Masters by 17 runs. Batting first, Wellman Masters managed 129-8 off their allocation of 20 overs. Openers Mahase Chunilall and Greg De Franca added 42 for the opening stand to get their team off to a fine start before De Franca departed for 32 which included two fours and three sixes. Chunilall followed shortly after for 38 which contained two fours and one six. Steady bowling from Regal Masters then restricted the scoring fairly; Sheldon Perch chipped in with 18 as Danny Thomas claimed 2-15 and Troy Kippins 2-24.
Opener Unnis Yusuf was caught off Perch for five as Regal Masters lost their first wicket with the score on 14; however Eon Abel and Da
vid Harper steadied the chase somewhat with a second wicket stand of 37. Harper hit one four before was dismissed for 23 while Abel slammed two fours and four sixes in a top score of 53. Following their departure, Wellman Masters pegged back the scoring with steady bowling as Regal Masters were limited to 112-7. Kippins contributed 13 as Nandram Samlall claimed 2-17, Wayne Jones 2-19 and Lakeram Singh, who bowled the last over off which 18 were required, had 1-1.
Ogle beat Success Masters by five wickets off the last ball. Success Masters batted first and scored 104 in 15 overs. Unnis Yusuf hit two fours and three sixes in a top score of 32, while Rafman Ally made 22 with three fours and one six and Zameer Hassan 13.
Anil Rambarran snared 3-19, while Wallack Joseph and Chanderpaul Rampersaud had two wickets each. Ogle responded with 108-5 in 15 overs. Michael Deonarine led with 28, Rampersaud made 18 not out, while Joseph, who struck the last ball of the innings to the long-on boundary when one was needed, finished unbeaten on 17. Troy Ramsaywack and Khemchand Dindyal assisted with 17 and 16 respectively. Yusuf and Danny Thomas took two wickets each.
