Barker guides MSC to victory; MYO beat UG despite Ali’s ton Rampersaud slams century for MYO

Nichosie Barker struck a fine half century to guide Malteenoes Sports Club to a four-wicket victory against GNIC SC, while Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) defeated University of Guyana by 52 runs when the latest action of the Georgetown Cricket Association/New Building Society Second Division 40-over tournament concluded on Sunday last.
Barker struck 10 fours as Malteenoes SC successfully chased 175; they finished on 176-6 in 29 overs at GNIC SC. The home team took first strike and were bowled out in the 35th over with David Dick top scoring with 75. After they were reduced to 22-3 and later 55-4, Dick added 36 for the fifth wicket with Shawn DeSouza (09) and then put on a further 39 with Jermaine Grosvenor (11) to prop up the total. Dick slammed 12 fours in his innings, while C. Duesbury contributed 15 as sixteen-year old leg spinner Wayne Bollers picked up 3-28 from six overs, Kellon Carmichael had 2-22 and Delon Dalrymple 2-26.
Openers Stephan Browne and Marcus Watkins put Malteenoes SC on course with a stand of 53 before the latter was bowled behind his back by M. Mentore for 27. Browne was then lbw to David Dick for 29, while Kwame Crosse and Carmichael fell for 16 and five respectively as GNIC SC fought back. However, Barker kept his composure and steadied the chase nicely as he added 51 for the fifth wicket with Shaquille Moseley who fell for 18. Barker eventually fell for 51; C. Duesbury took 2-31.

At Muslim Youth Organisation ground, Ershad Ali struck a belligerent century, but his feat failed to carry his team over the line. MYO decided to bat and piled up a challenging 343-7. Vinash Rampersaud smashed 13 fours and five sixes in an unbeaten 111; he added 151 for the fourth wicket with Safraz Esau who struck 91. Khemraj Ramdeen made 57 as Devon Paul claimed 2-50 and Dennis Heywood 2-91.
Pacer Chien Gittens put UG on the back foot early on to reduce them to 35-4 before Ali’s entertainment. The left-handed Ali clobbered 20 fours and eight sixes in his brutal knock before he was dismissed for 161. Keon Roberts made 24 and Almando Doman got 21 as UG were dismissed for 292 in 37 overs. Gittens finished with 3-37 and Shafiek Ishmael 3-51.
