Hamilton Green 9-a-side Inter-Ward/ Village KO Cup Top goalscorer race could craft exciting conclusion -Holder leads Schultz and Cozier

The race to see who will secure the top goalscorer prize is well and truly on and the leaders quest for the coveted reward could make today’s matches very exciting as the curtains come down on this year’s Hamilton Green 9-a-side Inter-Ward/ Village KO Cup, at the Den Amstel Community Centre ground.
Mahaica’s Quincy Holder is in pole position with three goals and he is closely followed by Pernell Schultz and Jamal Cozier of Newtown Kitty and Charlestown respectively, each having two.
Holder has been in prime form, but could find the almost impregnable Central McKenzie defence too rock solid to breach, while his closest rivals Schultz and Cozier are in with an excellent chance to level or even surpass him.
Irrespective of whoever gets the important accolade many believe that today’s round of matches could very well determine the outcome of this race.
In the fixtures: Sophia tackle Newtown Kitty in what is anticipated to be a scorching affair to set the tone for the rest of the evening.
Ernie, Peter and Simon Smith along with Jason Clarke will lead Sophia’s charge for a final four spot, while Newtown Kitty’s pursuit of victory will be spearheaded by Schultz, Anthony Sancho, Steffon Reynolds and Simeon Moore.
The Mahaica versus Central McKenzie encounter according to co-ordinator Lennox Arthur is tentative since the latter is scheduled to play in their yearend competition in the Mining Town of Linden.
He said they were locked in discussions with the Upper Demerara Football Association to gain approval to travel to West Demerara for the game.
They will be looking for solid performances from players such as Seon Barrett, Marvin Sullivan, Orlanzo Thurman and Emanuel Atkins, while Mahaica’s chances of progressing will depend heavily on Holder’s heroics along with support from Michael Amsterdam, Kurt Roberts, Quincy Holder, Ewart Abel and Troy Morris.
Charlestown then collide with Mahaicony and with Cozier’s focus centered on improving his goal tally, the opposition could be in for a tough time.
He will have in support Devon Charles, Kareem Knights and Curtez Kellman.
Mahaicony’s ambition of advancing will depend on players such as Ruel Chester, Kenroy D’Aguiar, Jason Wronge and Mark Roberts.
Uitvlugt and Crane then square off for a semi-final spot and this game apart from seeking a place in the next phase also have bragging rights as an inspiration.
Uitvlugt’s most popular ball weaver Trayon Bobb will be eager to bring glory to his supporters and his hunt will be aided by the likes of Seon Bobb, Keon Duke and Daniel Floy.
Crane will look to players such as Kwesi Henry, Jamal Mounter, Taylor Wharton and Oswin Boyce to instigate an upset.
The Ministry of Citizenship has sponsored the first prize of $400,000 and the winning trophy, while John Fernandes Ltd has done likewise for the losing finalist and it carries a prize of $200,000 and a trophy.
The Highest Goalscorer and Most Valuable Player will collect gifts compliments of China Trading and A.H. & L Kissoon.

Meanwhile, before that there will be three winner-take-all exhibition matches that will see the winning teams receive $25,000 and a trophy.
In the fixtures: Pouderoyen go up against Lilliendaal for cash and trophy sponsored by Director of Sport Christopher Jones, before Goed Fortuin tackle Timehri.
The Den Amstel versus Soesdyke affair for cash and trophy sponsored by MACORP will be played just before the final.
Kick off time is 17:00hrs.
