The venue is the Den Amstel Community Centre ground and the event is the Hamilton Green 9-a-side Inter-Ward/ Village KO Cup which is set to resume today with twelve anticipated riveting matches, commencing from 15:00hrs.
According to Co-ordinator Lennox Arthur, who is a former national player/Head Coach because it is the penultimate round, he expects the battle for prize monies in excess of $700,000 will definitely provide fans with some exciting encounters as teams try to position themselves for final day action scheduled for November 24, at the same venue.
In the opening game at 15:00hrs, Sophia ‘A’ led by Joshua Kamal and Shemroy Arthur take on Stewartville, who will have in their line-up the likes of Gary Mingo, Stephon Gibson and Leon Whyte.
This encounter will be followed by the clash between Charlestown and Vergenoegen with the skilful Jamal Cozier and Keiron Solomon expected to lead their attack along with support from William Europe, while Vergenoegen’s quest for victory will depend on the services of Horace and Kerron Caines.
The Mahaica versus Agricola matchup should be another enthralling encounter with Kurt Roberts, Dellon Charles and Eion Abel expected to lead the charge for the former, while Gordon Grant, Leon Moore and Collis Samuels look to secure Agricola’s chances of advancing.
Lucian Hercules, Seon Barron and Kevin Crawford will then look to lock up Central McKenzie’s berth in the final round, while Quacy Blue, Curwin Williams and Traif Moses will aim to do the same for Liliendaal.
The next game will pit Sophia ‘B’ versus Plaisance and this encounter has all the hallmarks of producing fireworks with Ernie and Peter Smith and Jermaine Nedd expected to lead the former pursuit of victory, while Kevin Liverpool, Keon Kyte and Travis Simon are the key to the latter’s search for a win.
In the feature game, hosts Den Amstel will rely heavily on the display of Keswin Fraser, Malcolm Miggins and Anthony Benn to engineer a win, while the opposition De Kindren’s hunt for an upset will depend on how well Colin Henry, Jalleel Samuels and Darrel Alexis plays.
The first prize of $400,000 and the championship trophy comes with the compliments of the Ministry of Citizenship, while the runner-up will be awarded $200,000 and trophy thanks to John Fernandes Ltd.
The third and fourth place finishers will receive $60,000 and $40,000 respectively along with the Techno Mills and Courtney Benn Construction Services trophies in that order.
Top finishers will receive hampers compliments of Ricks & Sari Industries, while the Highest Goalscorer walks away with a Lazy Boy Chair courtesy of A.H&L Kissoon and a Dinette Set compliment of China Trading.
The Most Valuable Player will be awarded a special prize from Techno Mills.
