A young woman’s passion for creating scrumptious dishes has evolved into a thriving business.
She has elevated from creating finger-licking meals for her family and friends, to satisfying the taste buds of countless customers on a daily basis.
Located at Great Diamond, East Bank Demerara, is Renia’s Grill, the brainchild of 24-year-old Vanessa Shelto, a graduate of the University of Guyana. This ambitious young woman is also pursuing studies in law at Nations University.
Renia’s Grill began operations earlier this month and was inspired by Shelto’s love for food.
According to her, “This love for food inspired her to start the business. The idea of having and creating something incredible that people can taste and label ‘a bite of heaven’ is sufficient inspiration.”
The products currently being sold by Renia’s Grill are hamburgers with fries, hot dogs and burritos. The business usually has a fish fry and barbeque every Saturday. Persons may place orders for delivery around Georgetown.
In the near future, Renia’s Grill will be working on adding tacos, wings and fries, chicken and fries to its menu. Currently, the business employs three persons. There is also expected development of existing recipes and new ones.
Shelto revealed, “The business offers catering services to all events such as bridal showers, business events, weddings, birthdays, baby showers among others. Deliveries are done in Georgetown every Friday for Hamburgers, Tacos and burritos and every Saturday for Barbeque Chicken.”
Renia’s Grill also has a sister business called Renia’s Cakes and Cupcakes which supplies cakes, cupcakes and pastries for all occasions.
Shelto explained that she conducted significant research of various food outlets to obtain products up to health standards; a few credible suppliers were found from which the food used for production is sourced.
Though similar food establishments are present in the area, Renia’ Grill receives no significant competition since the products and services by others vary.

“Our presentation and tasty, quality dishes and hospitable staff would set us ahead of any competition that may ever arise,” she added.
The training the CEO has received at institutions such as Carnegie School of Home Economics adds to the edge over possible competition. In time to come, there is expected expansion and the opening of additional locations, which will create additional employment.
