A few months after a labourer was charged and remanded to prison for snatching a gold chain valued $71,000, he was yesterday sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment by a City Magistrate at the conclusion of the trial.
Peter Waldron, 28, had denied the charge, which stated that on May 8, last, at Cornhill Street, Georgetown; he stole a $71,000 gold chain from Deon Persaud.
Magistrate Dylon Bess told the court that at the conclusion of the trial, he was satisfied with the evidence led by the prosecution, hence he found the defendant guilty. He added that none of the prosecution witness evidence was discredited.
According to information on the day in question, the victim was waiting on transportation when Waldron, who was standing next to him, snatched his chain and made good his escape.
An alarm was raised and Waldron was arrested and taken into custody.
