The two men accused of murdering wholesale vendor, Saeed ‘Sayo’ Hamid, of Lot 41 Queenstown, Corriverton, yesterday made their joint appearance at the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court.
Satrohan ‘Bluey’ Madray, 31, a Pujari, of Bennet Dam, D’Edward Village; and Antonio Singh Balrup, a computer technician of Lot 2138 Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice, stood before Magistrate Rhondell Weaver to answer to the joint charge of murder.
The charge read that Madray and Balrup murdered Saeed Hamid on April 19 at D’Edward Village, West Coast Berbice. They were not required to plead to the capital offence of murder. They were both represented by Attorney-at-law Mursalene Bacchus.
Madray displayed to his attorney signs of what he said resulted from police beatings. However no such complaint was brought to the attention of the Magistrate.
They are set to return to the Blairmont Magistrate Court on July 17.
The third accused, Asif Hamid, is also expected to be charged with being an accessory.
Satrohan ‘Bluey’ Madray, Antonio Singh Balrup and Asif Hamid are accused of murdering wholesale Crabwood Creek vendor, Saeed ‘Sayo’ Hamid, at Bennett Dam, D’Edward Village, West Coast Berbice. Hamid who is currently incarcerated for a previous murder is accused of conspiring before the act to murder the victim who is his father.
The vendor left his home on April 19, 2018. Two months later police had a break and arrested Madray and Balrup. While in custody they reportedly confessed to bludgeoning ‘Sayo’ and then burning his corpse behind the home and temple officiated over by Madray at D’Edward village.
Madray reportedly told cops that he conspired with Asif Hamid, his close friend to murder the vendor to prevent him from providing evidence against his son in his upcoming high court trial.
