GRA and the police are collaborating on a crackdown on thousands of vehicles that have not been renewed.
Thousands of vehicles that reportedly have not been licensed are on the radar of authorities.
A tough campaign is coming, warned the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) yesterday.
“The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) wishes to advise the general public that motor vehicle licences are required for motor vehicles used or kept for use on roads,” the authority said.
GRA said it has observed that there are a number of motor vehicles for which licences have not been renewed for a number of years.
The cases are said to be in the thousands.
“The GRA will be collaborating with the Guyana Police Force (GPF) to take appropriate enforcement actions to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Motor Vehicle & Road Traffic Act 51:02.”
GRA said it is giving motor vehicle owners an opportunity to present their motor vehicle registration along with their Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) to the Motor Vehicle section of the Licence Revenue Division to have their motor vehicle licence information updated and any outstanding payment settled.
“Motor vehicle owners are also advised that if the motor vehicle has been destroyed or rendered permanently unserviceable, owners must inform the GRA and submit the original registration certificate for cancellation.”
