“Young people, especially in the Caribbean, are uniquely placed to take advantage of the opportunities that come with the global need for innovation. The youth’s mind is incredibly creative. We see problems and immediately imagine new ways around them, mixing culture, tech, and business in ways that didn’t exist 5 years ago.”
By Allyiah Allicock (Kaieteur News) – “We started A La Cart’e because Guyana deserves events that feel personal, innovative, and unique.” Those are the words of three young ambitious women who joined forces and launched their décor and catering business in December 2025.
The three young women, Siani Archer, Destiny Hinds, and Shontel Prescott, believe in turning moments into memories and through ‘A La Cart’e’, they aimed to deliver just that.
Before we get into what this thriving business is all about, let’s take a moment to get to know the exceptional owners behind it.
Twenty-two-year-old Prescott, she is considered the business’ “Queen of detail” and “fairy godmother.” If there’s a theme, she will make it come to life in the linens, and centerpieces.
With a very particular mother who is privy to details, it was only natural that Prescott inherited that trait. Not only that, but from her father’s hotel and banquet hall business, she was exposed to the world of events at a young age. The only girl of four brothers, this young woman naturally took on the roles of juice maker, baker, detail-oriented planner, and family fashionista. Realising that talent, she branched into roles that matched her purpose.
As for 23-year-old Hinds, she is titled the “Flavour Queen” of the business since she has a knack for culinary. Her love for adventure and passion for creative expression leaches into her kitchen in the best way. She is the experimentalist of the group—never afraid to try different flavours. Outside of confectionaries, Hinds is a self-driven environmental activist with a passion for sustainable development, social inclusion, and a technical background in renewable energy.
As it relates to 26-year-old Archer, she is the Event Planner that keeps everything running smoothly. From booking the DJ to securing the location, she is the woman for the job. By day, she’s an analyst, and then by night, she’s crunching numbers for A La Cart’e. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Guyana and is also a writer and makeup artist.
Together with their unique skills and passion, they strive to deliver exceptional experiences tailored to diverse events and occasions.
Recalling how they initially came up with the idea for ‘A La Cart’e’, they said it all started from a photo shoot. “Yes, a photo shoot, then a bake sale, and finally a full-fledged team running a snack/beverage bar at an album cover. The rest is history,” they explained.
About their business, it does decor and catering, practically at full-service, making it less stress for clients.
“That means one team, one vision, from the first theme board to the last fork. Our full service exists so you’re not stuck playing the middleman between a caterer, who doesn’t talk to your decorator. We plan the menu with the tablescape in mind,” they explained.
On the catering side, they explained that they handle custom menus, dietary needs, taste tests, and day-of service, whether it’s for a corporate launch or a full plated dinner for a wedding.
It is important to note, that they have a vested interest in vegan and vegetarian cuisines because finding accessible, affordable, and delicious options in Georgetown is not easy. “That’s where A La Cart’e is making a difference. Everyone deserves to eat. And for those looking to expand their palates, we’d be happy to put you on to something new,” they stated.
Relating to the décor, “We lead our design process with client consults, visual mockups when needed, and hands-on styling.” They added that they source locally when they can and reuse/repurpose pieces so it’s custom and conscious.
Guaranteed to deliver a better experience every time, the trio stated that with innovation being one of the pillars of the business, they listen and value feedback from their clients. These relationships, they said are important to the community they are building and that is why every event teaches them more about how they can better serve you.
Speaking on their support and the feedback they have received since collaborating in December 2025, they noted that their families and friends have been their loudest cheerleaders. “They were our first taste testers, our free labourers, and the ones reposting every flyer like it’s their job,” they recalled.
Besides families and friends, they related that the support from the wider public has been positive in the best way. Persons would not only use their services, but some would provide feedbacks, share posts, and keep them accountable too.
“Saving the best for last, our biggest supporter is God, who pushes us to be ourselves, gives us guidance, and enables us with ideas. Instead of casting them aside, we launch them into action with the entire team in full support. We’re still small, but we’re not doing this alone,” the women expressed.
Still on their entrepreneurial journey, they recalled the initial challenges they would have dealt with.
Their biggest challenge they noted was being resourceful. “In the beginning, we wore all the hats—figuring out our market, shopping, cooking, designing our own flyers, marketing the brand, invoicing, and everything. Thankfully we have each other. We lean hard into our roles to simplify the workload: Shontel on details, Destiny on flavour, and Siani on logistics,” they explained.
As they continue to navigate through it all, they shared that their long-term goal is to make A La Cart’e have its own home. “A restaurant space where people can experience A La Cart’e any day of the week, not just at events,” they mentioned.
Additionally, they disclosed that long-term, they are building a full-service event brand in Guyana that does not lose the custom feel. “Places where you can book your wedding, grab lunch, or pick up dessert for a time—all done the A La Cart’e way: personal, innovative, and unique.”
Meanwhile, our featured entrepreneurs are of the view that small business owners are important in our society since they are leading the way forward.
According to them with Guyana being the fastest-growing nation in the world, this is an unprecedented time in our society, and as such, it rests on the young entrepreneurs to take advantage of every opportunity made available, and when none exists, they must create one.
“Young people, especially in the Caribbean, are uniquely placed to take advantage of the opportunities that come with the global need for innovation. The youth’s mind is incredibly creative. We see problems and immediately imagine new ways around them, mixing culture, tech, and business in ways that didn’t exist 5 years ago,” they said.
Further, when asked what they think can be done locally to help small business grow; they explained that one of the critical factors for small businesses is knowledge.
“Knowing which special licences apply to your industry, how to create a business plan, and how to make your small business export-ready—these are critical, but there’s an educational gap. Without a solid background in business management, many businesses, small and large, don’t make it past that first year,” they detailed.
The trio noted too that access to capital without impossible collateral, and access to spaces where they can sell and collaborate can be a big boost. Suggesting for there to be more collaborations like pop-up markets, shared kitchen/vendor spaces, and even vendor swaps, this is how they introduce clients to each other and cut costs.
For persons looking to experience the services of A La Cart’e, the women have an upcoming event called “Moms in Bloom”, where they are giving the moms their flowers at A La Cart’e. It’s a brunch experience centered on beauty, rest, and appreciation. From beautiful floral decor, to photo moments, curated playlists, fun activities, and a tasty menu, the team is handling every detail. The event which is slated for May 10, 2026, they disclosed that “You just have to bring mom or a mother figure. It’s the perfect opportunity for a Mother’s Day gift, daughter/son-mom dates, or treating yourself if you’re the mom.”
