(Kaieteur News) – Two men from New Amsterdam, Berbice were arrested on Thursday after they were busted with a quantity of cannabis during a stop-and-search exercise along the Weldaad Public Road, Region Five.
Police said ranks intercepted a white Toyota Fielder Wagon car with two male occupants, a 28-year-old male of Timmers Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, Berbice and the passenger, a 20-year-old labourer of New Amsterdam, Berbice.
The men along with the car were searched during which four bulky parcels wrapped in transparent plastic and containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis were found in two multi-coloured shopping bags in the trunk.
Police said the men were both arrested and taken into custody.
“The suspected cannabis, motor vehicle and both suspects were escorted to the Weldaad Police Station, where the suspected narcotics were weighed in their presence and amounted to 45.4 pounds before being lodged,” the police said.
