Correias try to stifle competing entities at Ogle Airport with oppressive fees
The Correia family, having full control over the daily management of the Eugene F. Correia International Airport, has reportedly been using its position of strength to stifle the operations of aviation companies using that facility.

The Correias own three companies that operate from Ogle, these are: Caribbean Aviation Maintenance Services (CAMS), Correia Mining Company (CMC) and Trans Guyana Limited.
CAMS provides fuel for aircraft at the airport.
Kaieteur News understands that Michael Correia, as Chairman of the OAI board and head of the Correia Group, ensured that CAMS paid no throughput charges (fees per gallon of fuel sold) to OAI.
Throughput charges are usually an essential source of revenue at all airports. But while CAMS was the only fuel provider, Ogle Airport was deprived of one of its major sources of revenue.
Kaieteur News understands that Correia also ensured that no fuel license structure existed and a fuel monopoly was in place. This changed as soon as a second fuel supplier —Air Services Limited (ASL) — began its operations.
Fuel throughput charges which were waived for CAMS were immediately imposed on ASL.
A new requirement of a $2.5M fuel licence fee which never existed before became mandatory, imposed by OAI without consultation. Fuel farm insurance to the value of US$10M also became a requirement.
Kaieteur News understands that aircraft operators who attempted to purchase fuel from the new supplier were advised by CAMS that their contracts for aircraft maintenance were hinged to them purchasing fuel from CAMS only.
In the early days the Correia Group made it mandatory for aircraft operators who were renting office space and having their aircraft maintenance provided by CAMS to also purchase fuel from their fuel farm.
