Nine-year-old Christina Lakeram, a student of Number 68 Primary School, is battling for her life at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
She was struck down yesterday along the Number 68 Public Road.
Seenarine Shamlall, 25, the driver of motor car HC 7751, is now in police custody and his vehicle lodged at the Springlands Police Station. The driver tested zero for alcohol in his blood.
Information gathered indicated that motorcar HC 7751 was proceeding south at a fast speed rate when the pedestrian made a sudden dash from east to west into the path of the car when she was struck down.
She was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to Skeldon Hospital where she was treated and referred the New Amsterdam Hospital. She was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Investigations are ongoing.
