Police have detained three men who have allegedly confessed to killing vendor and labourer, Dhanpaul Dookie, at Uitspa Village, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, Upper Demerara River.
The suspects are all from Lusignan, East Coast Demerara. A police release stated that they admitted to robbing and killing Dookie.
One of the suspects was previously charged for murder, but was discharged on that offence. Another suspect has an attempted murder charge pending in the High Court, and the third was charged with several lesser criminal offences.
The body of Dookie, also called ‘Pauline’, was found around 08.00 hrs last Thursday. He had been stabbed multiple times. It is believed that he may have been slain since Monday.
Detectives received information that three men, who worked with a businessman from the same area, had disappeared at around the same time that the killing occurred.
“They were working with a guy who has a business in the area. We had info that they had vanished,” a police official said.
Police from ‘C’ Division assisted in tracking down the suspects. When they were finally arrested, the alleged killers had already ‘sported out’ (spent) the cash they had stolen from their victim.
Charges are likely shortly.
