A 37-year-old welder who was riding a jet ski on August Monday at the NO. 63 Beach has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of a nine year old boy.
Viraj Arjunanan, called “Tulsi,” of Grant 2767 Crabwood Creek appeared on Friday before Magistrate Charlene Artiga at the N0.51 Magistrate’s Court. He is charged with causing the death of Daniel Moolsammy, called “Ju, Ju,” a student of the Yakusari Primary School and of Yakusari South Black Bush Polder. The accident occurred on August 2016 at NO.63 Beach.
He was granted $1M bail.
He is also required to lodge his passport and report to the Springlands Police Station every Friday until the determination of the trial.
Reports were that Daniel had gone to the N0.63 Beach with his family. He was in the water when a jet ski which was being manned by the accused, allegedly struck him.
The lad was taken to a hospital where he succumbed.
A post mortem examination which was conducted by Dr. VIvikanand Brijmohan at the Skeldon Hospital showed that Moolsammy died from a fractured skull, asphyxia and drowning.
The accused was arrested and charged.
He will have to return to court on 14 September for report.
