Pawan Chandradeo, Naresh Rooplall and 15-year-old Jaikarran Chandradeo were killed execution-style, because they had accidentally stumbled on a gang of thieves making off with drums of fuel from a rice farm.
They were gunned down by a 17-year-old boy, whose father, a farmer, and two workers, were identified as the thieves.
This was disclosed last night as Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum announced that investigators, spearheaded by the Major Crimes unit, finally made a breakthrough in identifying the individuals behind last Friday’s triple murder at Mibicuri, Berbice.
The alleged mastermind is a 38-year-old farmer, his teenage son, a 27-year-old employee and another worker, who is still at large. The three suspects are being detained in Georgetown, but are to be taken back to Berbice today to assist further in the investigation.
The bodies of 37-year-old Pawan Chandradeo, called ‘Suresh’ of Lot 163 Mibicuri, BBP; 33-year-old Naresh Rooplall called ‘Ticka Bai’ of No. 77 Village, Corentyne and 15-year-old Jaikarran Chandradeo, called ‘Kevin’ of Mibicuri North, were found around 09.00 hrs on Friday in a backdam at Mibicuri, Black Bush Polder, Corentyne.
Kaieteur News was told that on the very night that the trio was going on their fishing expedition, a rice farmer, his son, and two employees sneaked into the rice fields of a farmer known as ‘King’ to steal several drums of diesel fuel.
It was when they were carting off the fuel that their paths crossed with the trio who were going to fish.
Terrified that their robbery would be disclosed, they decided to kill Pawan Chandradeo, Naresh Rooplall and 15-year-old Jaikarran Chandradeo,
The farmer’s 17-year-old allegedly blasted the victims with a licensed shotgun.
The farmer reportedly ordered the gang to “destroy the evidence,” including the shotgun cartridges. However, police have recovered part of a cartridge.
According to reports, the victims were found by Sudama Jagmohan, a rice farmer of Mibicuri South, Black Bush Polder and his workmen.
According to Jagmohan, he was on his way to his rice field at Cookrite area where he also has hassars.
Jaghoman said that on their way to his farm, the group found the bodies lying on a dam in his rice-land.
He immediately called a neighbour who informed the police.
The police, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Marlon Taylor and residents, secured boats and journeyed to the area where they eventually came upon the graphic scene.
Shoba Devi Luckicharan, the mother of Naresh Rooplall, told Kaieteur News that her son ventured to the backdam to catch fish.
With him were her son-in-law and two grandsons, Jaikarran and Alvin.
