Twenty-seven-year-old Orin Jules who allegedly stabbed his brother to death last Saturday at their Sophia home was yesterday remanded to prison after he was charged with the capital offence of murder.
Orin Jules of 634 ‘D’ Field Sophia is accused of murdering 23-year-old Dexter Jules.
He was remanded to prison until August 4, by Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul when he appeared in the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.
Orin Jules had no legal representation and told the Magistrate that he was previously charged with offences varying from break and enter and simple larceny.
Court facts revealed that the accused and his brother were involved in a heated argument on the day in question at their home. The accused retaliated by picking up a knife and stabbing his brother several times in the chest. Dexter Jules was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
After stabbing his brother, Orin Jules went and hid in a clump of bushes. However, public spirited citizens apprehended him and handed him over to police.
Police Prosecutor, David Goodridge told the court that the accused is in the habit of threatening to kill family members. As a matter a fact, Goodridge pointed out that Orin Jules was convicted by the aforementioned court on a charge in relation to threatening to murder his mother and siblings.
Kaieteur News had previously reported that Orin Jules is a drug addict and was in the habit of terrorizing his family on a daily basis.
It was reported that Orin Jules stabbed his brother after he prevented him from entering the family shop. Dexter Jules reportedly managed to run a few metres after he was stabbed but later collapsed.
The dead man leaves to mourn his wife and six other siblings.
