The GTT Tens Rugby Championship will conclude today with four of Guyana’s top teams expected to rumble for the coveted title, at the National Park. Speaking at a press briefing yesterday, at GTT headquarters on Hadfield Street, Public Relation Officer Nadia DeAbreu spoke of the fulfillment the Company has enjoyed with the staging of the tournament.

Vice-President of the GRFU receives the championship trophy from PRO of GTT Nadia DeAbreu in the presence of team captains yesterday.
“At some point during the New Year we are looking forward to our youth programme, but we must congratulate the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) on the Tens’ tournament and the teams on their participation,” DeAbreu stated.
The final two playoff games will be played with the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) leading the way on 11 points, while defending champions Pepsi Hornets are on nine points. The Yamaha Caribs and the University of Guyana (UG) Wolves are on five points apiece.
Hornets Captain Delroy Gordon speaking at the briefing expressed confidence ahead of their clash against Caribs which according to him will give them a chance of retaining the title.
“There is no way Caribs will beat us and we will ensure of that to give ourselves a chance to win,” Gordon quipped.
Meanwhile, Captain of the GDF men, Patrick King was adamant that GDF will remain as the ‘top dogs’ of the tournament. “We are going there to take the championship away from Hornets, we will give 100%, we have beaten the Hornets in this tournament and would do it again if we have to,” King stated.
However, UG Wolves have a chance of vaulting to second place if they should defeat GDF and Captain of the squad Godfrey Broomes reminded those present of UG’s existence. “We have a say in this and we have shown that we are at the top of the food chain in seven’s and 15’s and we are going out there tomorrow to show what we can do especially against GDF,” Broomes said.
Caribs and Hornets will collide in the first play-off from 15:00h, while GDF and UG Wolves face off in the second play-off. The team that finishes with the most points will be declared the winner of the tournament and with GDF on 11 points they are guaranteed a top two finish.
