Come April 26 when the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club host its first Circuit Meet of the year, fans will see the return of the Rookies category, a feature that was discarded a few years ago, but one that was eagerly anticipated for those entering the sport.
A source from the entity told this newspaper that the re-introduction of the category will definitely inject much needed new life into the sport which has been dominated by a regular set of competitors who are either migrating or retiring.
The source added that the close off date for competitors to register is today at the club’s Headquarters on Albert Street.
Meanwhile, A&R Jiwanram Printery Inc has indicated that it will be putting up $100,000 towards the restart of the Rookies category and the money will go to the top three finishers overall for the day with the driver that accumulates the most points set to receive $50,000, 2nd place- $30,000 and 3rd place- $20,000.
The incentive it is hoped will encourage potential drivers to enter the category and stick with the sport.
