Kaieteur Sports – Demerara Mutual Group has reaffirmed its commitment to youth football development in Guyana after announcing the renewal of its sponsorship and insurance coverage for all Petra Organisation Football programmes throughout the 2026 season.
The announcement was made yesterday during a brief but significant sponsorship presentation at the company’s Robb and Avenue of Republic office in Georgetown and will take effect immediately, beginning with the upcoming Petra Tertiary Education Football Tournament, which is scheduled to kick off early next month at venues across the country.

Demerara Mutual Group provides sponsorship to all Petra Programmes throughout 2026 as Co-Director of the Petra Organisation and the company’s Sales and Marketing Coordinator Oceola Van Doimen sealed 2026 commitment yesterday following a brief presentation at their Robb and Avenue of the Republic office.
Demerara Mutual Life and Fire Insurance, which has served the Guyanese public for more than 134 years, partnered with the Petra Organisation throughout the 2025 season, providing Group Personal Accidents Insurance coverage for every player involved in Petra-organised tournaments. Over the course of last year, the company supported a total of seven competitions, spanning multiple age groups and regions.
Following its year-long involvement, Demerara Mutual Group said it gained a clear understanding of Petra’s vision and the tangible impact its programmes continue to have on young athletes nationwide. This firsthand experience prompted the company to renew its coverage for all Petra programmes for the entirety of the 2026 season.
The renewed initiative ensures that all registered student-athletes — from the Under-11 divisions through to the senior/Tertiary categories — will compete with comprehensive insurance protection, safeguarding hundreds, and potentially thousands, of young players across Guyana.
Speaking at the briefing, Petra Organisation Co-Director Troy Mendonca described the renewal as a significant investment in the sport.
“What the Demerara Mutual Group did last year and their commitment for this year are truly massive for football and for the athletes at large,” Mendonca said. “For us as an organisation to have this level of coverage for our players throughout the year is huge, and I am confident this partnership will continue to bear positive results.”
Mendonca also expressed gratitude on behalf of Petra as preparations intensify for the organisation’s first tournament of the 2026 calendar.
“I want to say a sincere thank you to Demerara Mutual Group for reaffirming their commitment as we gear up to kick off our first tournament in February,” he added.
Demerara Mutual Group Sales and Marketing Coordinator, Oceola Van Doimen, said the company’s involvement goes beyond traditional sponsorship.
“Some people see insurance as just paperwork and policies, but insurance, when done right, is about enabling dreams,” Van Doimen said. “It’s about removing barriers and allowing young people to pursue opportunities and develop their talent, knowing they are protected.”
She noted that the company’s continued investment in Petra’s programmes reflects its broader vision for national development.
“When Demerara Mutual Group invests in youth sports, we’re making a statement about the kind of Guyana we want to build — one where every child has the opportunity to play, learn and grow, regardless of their background or where they live,” she said.

Demerara Mutual Group Sales and Marketing Coordinator, Oceola Van Doimen renews Personal Accident Protection policy for all registered students participating at Petra tournament.
Van Doimen also praised Petra’s organisational structure and long-term focus on youth development, noting that the partnership aligns with the company’s responsibility to future generations.
“As a Guyanese company that has been part of this nation’s story for decades, we believe our responsibility extends beyond our policyholders,” she added. “We’re in the business of protection, but more importantly, we’re in the business of possibility.”
With the renewal secured for the full 2026 season, Petra Organisation’s tournaments will once again proceed with the assurance that player welfare remains a central priority.
