Determined not to be the second team from the village of Melanie

Part of the action between eventual winners Melanie ‘B’ and Nabaclis in their semi-final matchup that was played at the Haslington Tarmac.
Damishana to fall to giant killers Nabaclis, Melanie ‘B’ produced a gutsy performance to hold off the community’s nemesis and make it to the final of the East Coast Zone of the Guinness ‘Greatest of De Streets’ Competition following the completion of semi-final action on Wednesday evening, at Haslington.
In the other last four matchup, BV ‘A’ upset the Boojies choice by squeezing past favourites Plaisance ‘A’ through a solitary strike off the boots of the prolific Akin Curry to set up a grand final showdown against Melanie ‘B’ on Saturday night, at the same venue.
Plaisance ‘A’ and Nabaclis will now contest the playoff for third place, while BV ‘A’ and Melanie ‘B’ irrespective of tomorrow’s result will be the two representatives of the East Coast in the national payoffs.
Playing in the opening semi-final before another large turnout, Melanie ‘B’ took the lead through Amunike Rogers, who evaded an attempt to check his advance, before finishing with aplomb to give his side the lead after six minutes.
However, the huge Nabaclis support base was able to celebrate in the 18th minute when

Rickford Morrison scored a goal of sheer class. It started from a counterattack where he was able to sprint onto a pass, weave past one tackle, before hammering a fierce left-footer into the roof of the net with the final sentry reduced to a mere spectator even during the celebrations that erupted.
Four minutes later, the arena was once again the location for a larger assault on the eardrums as Nabaclis’ Nicosi McCloud netted with a screaming right-footer and it was game on after then. Melanie ‘B’, however, was not about to lay down arms and surrender and responded with immediacy and the clever Rogers executed an audacious back heel one minute later to not only silence the crowd, but put the game back on even keel.
The situation did not get better for Nabaclis and they paid for over compensating in the physical slugfest as they conceded a penalty after picking a sixth foul which Anil Hernandez buried with all the confidence in the world in the 35th minute of play.
Melanie ‘B’ hung on in the remaining time, despite also conceding a penalty for a similar infringement which star player Akamo Jack sprayed wide, to book a place in the final. The highly anticipated clash that followed was another tense and exciting affair as both teams stood toe to toe in a fierce brawl that was settled by Curry’s lone strike after 18th minutes.
In the earlier exhibition fixture, Banks DIH Limited trounced the Media by a 4-1 margin. The victorious team will receive $300,000 and the championship trophy, while the second place side takes home $150,000 and the runners-up accolade. Third and fourth place finishers carts off $100,000 and $75,000 respectively.
