The reigning NFL champions became the first with an opportunity to defend their title after Russell Wilson’s 35-yard touchdown pass to Jermaine Kearse in overtime gave Seattle a 28-22 victory over the Green Bay Packers.
Seattle overcame a 16-0 halftime deficit, the largest in championship game history.
Wilson, who entered the game as the highest-rated playoff passer in league history, threw a career-high four interceptions in his sixth postseason start.
But Wilson also improved to 26-2 at CenturyLink Field, where the Seahawks have not lost a postseason game in a decade.
The last team to win back-to-back Super Bowls was the 2003-2004 New England Patriots. The Seahawks could face the Pats in two weeks if New England beats the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship Game.
