Paul De Nobrega returned to winning ways on the road ways with victory in the 5th annual Seven Seas Multivitamin and Joint Care/Dr. Chase Nerve Food 50-mile cycle road race on the West Demerara.

From a field of sixteen starters, De Nobrega was able to out sprint veteran Robin Persaud who looked as if he stepped off the accelerator in the final meter of the sprint and Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams to win in One Hour 52 Minutes 56 Seconds bettering last year’s time of 1:55.04 posted by Persaud.
National junior Time Trial winner, Michael Anthony took the fourth place overall which meant he was the top junior on show, Mark Harris and Enzo Matthews closed out the top six positions in the senior category.
Williams and Matthews took two prime prizes each with one apiece for De Nobrega, Persaud, Anthony and Raymond Newton.
Raul Leal and Alanzo Ambrose trailed Anthony to the line in that order to round out the junior division.
Berbician Wasim Hasnoo topped the field in the veteran category clocking One Hour 23 Minutes 42.38 Seconds. Hasnoo was unchallenged to the line, coming in a distant second was Ralph Williams with Shameer Baksh third.
Stamping his authority yet again in the mountain bike category was Ozuia Macullay who stopped the clock at One Hour 23 Minutes 45.38 Seconds, to win from Emanuel Gay Raul and Julio Melville.
Tashwanna Doris was the lone female on show while the first Over-60 rider to cross the line was the consistent Montgomery Parris.
Yesterday’s race got off to a fine start outside the Wales Police Station, West Bank Demerara with the senior and junior riders proceeding to Bushy Park on the East Bank of Essequibo before returning to the Demerara Harbour Bridge for the finish. Veterans, mountain bike and female riders turned back at Uitvlugt on the West Coast of Demerara.
On hand to chat with the cyclists after the race whilst offering tips on healthy lifestyles was Ms. Karen Connell, Products Specialist for Seven Seas and Brand Representative for Guyana. Ms. Connell told the riders that her company was very pleased to be supporting the sport of cycling and offered quite a few tips on the Seven Seas products and the benefits of using these products.
Kurt Seymour, Representative for Dr. Chase Products also shared brief remarks and assisted in the presentation of prizes. All the competitors received samples of the Seven Seas and Dr. Chase products. (Franklin Wilson)
