The Guyanese athletes got into action Thursday starting with the athletics programme at the National Stadium in Chile at the South American Games 2014 and Winston George stormed into the finals of that event.

The 400m saw two Guyanese athletes, George and Wayne Harlequin in action. George went through to the finals, while Wayne Harlequin did not qualify. Ande Freitas Henriques won the heat in 45.57 followed by George in 46.57 and Alberto Aguilar in 46.91 being the top qualifiers in the first semifinal.
The other qualifiers in the other semi were: Jhon al Perlaza Zapata in 46.54, Freddy Mezones in 46.83 and Hugo Balduino de Sousa in 47.63.
The events for today will see both Guyanese athletes and boxers in action. In Athletics:
Women’s 100m Semifinals features Alisha Fortune; Men’s 400m finals will see Winston George battling for the gold and the Men’s 1500m Finals features Cleveland Thomas and Cleveland Forde in the hunt.
The Boxers start their competition today at 7:00pm with Dennis Thomas and Eon Bancroft in action, while Theresa London begins her quest tomorrow. All the bouts are quarterfinals. Thomas fights Vivas Palacios Jorge Luis of Columbia, while Bancroft against Maestre Gabriel of Venezuela and London against Tereza Figueiredo Flavia of Brazil.
