Secondary have booked their respective places in the championship game of the inaugural Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA) / ‘Sunburst Orange Juice’ sponsored Secondary Schools Under-17 basketball competition.
In the semifinals which were contested on Wednesday last at the Mackenzie Sports Club Hard Court, Mackenzie High, as expected breezed past New Silvercity Secondary 40-21, while there was a surprise win for Christianburg Wismar Secondary who overcame Linden Foundation Secondary 47-36.
Linden Foundation Secondary’s inability to have a bench took its toll on the only five players available which resulted in their defeat.
In feature play, Linden Foundation were up against Christianburg Wismar and were fancying their chances of another win having defeated the said opponents in the preliminary stage of the competition.
However, after they played brilliantly through three quarters, they paid the price as Christianburg Wismar made full use of their substitute bench; in the end the winners bounced Linden Foundation out of contention.

Nigel Plowell, who demonstrated the will to win despite not having a bench, but they were exhausted by the end of the third quarter.
It was here the game was lost for them as after Christianburg Wismar had tied the scores at 31 with a big three pointer, the winners pulled away. At the end of the first quarter, Christianburg were trailing 9-17, while the scores were tied at the half way mark, 21-21.
Daniel Lee was the leading scorer for the winners with 16 points; Akini Buntin touched in 10 with Kellon Patterson and Gregory Euripi tipping in six each.
Semple and Plowell showed why they are regarded among the best players at this level with contributions of 15 and 12 points respectively.
In the first game, Mackenzie High, after leading 4-2 and a half time level at 6 accelerated to outscore their opponents 19-10 to lead after three quarters 25-16 and eventually eased home to a 41-20 triumph.
Guiding the victory bid was forward Daniel Anthony who poured in 12 points as teammate Otis Williams 11 and Edson Emmanuel supported well with six. Four players for New Silvercity Secondary each got four points and they were Cleveland

The final will be contested on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at the Mackenzie Sports Club Hard Court.
