When former Senior Chess Champion, Wendell Muesa, defeated his successor, Taffin Khan, on day two of the 2013 National Senior Chess Championships, the former player had said that his major challenges were over and he could not visualize losing to any of his other opponents and was good and ready to reclaim the coveted title.

This was not to be as former junior champion, Anthony Drayton, triumphed over Muesa and put a monkey’s wrench in his plans when the tournament continued at the Ocean Spray Hotel, Rupert Craig Highway and Stanley Place Kitty, Wednesday evening last.
Muesa remains at three points, the same as veteran player, Errol Tiwari, who defeated Rashad Hussain. However, Muesa still managed to assume the lead position after benefiting from the tie break system.
Drayton and Khan are on 2 ½ points each after the latter player easily defeated Davion Mars. Roberto Neto and Glenford Corlette are on 2 points each while Davson Mars is on one point. Hussain is yet to score a point and resides in the cellar.
Meanwhile, the players return tomorrow for the fifth round and Muesa will play Hussain while Mars plays Drayton. Neto opposes Khan while Tiwari tangles with Corlette. The final two rounds are set for Sunday all at the same venue. (Michael Benjamin)
