K and S Group receives and gives as school tournament looms
Several weeks of stringent planning will finally come to fruition when the curtains go up on the 24th annual Kashif and Shanghai Football tournament, among 24 school teams, at the Georgetown Football Club Ground, Sunday, December 8 next and K&S Directors, Kashif Muhammad and Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major, was busy yesterday as he received valuable support even as he extended similar chivalry.

Despite the hard work, those efforts would have been in vain were it not for the input of members of the corporate community. To this effect, the New Guyana Pharmaceutical Company has pitched in with its usual contribution towards the success of the event.
Yesterday afternoon, two representatives of that firm, Marketing Manager, Trevor Bassoo and Marketing Assistant, Livasti Bhooplall, visited the Irving Street office of the organisers and handed over a hefty sponsorship package to offset the expenses associated with organizational procedures.
The donating firm has been a part of the sponsorship team for more than seven years and yesterday improved its contribution to $500,000 which will go to the runners up. “GPC is a strong advocate of youth development and as such, management could not possibly ignore a request to support the tournament which is in keeping with our objectives,” exhorted Mr. Bassoo moments after the gift exchanged hands.
Mr. Muhammad thanked his benefactor even as he revealed that the preparations are progressing satisfactorily. He said that there has been a small change where Charlestown Secondary has replaced Covent Garden Secondary due to unforeseen circumstances.
Otherwise, activities will get underway at 16:00hrs this Sunday with the traditional march past of teams followed by the first two games. The organizers have said that there will be no charge to view the games up to the semi-finals stage.
Meanwhile, the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre joined the rest of the world to commemorate International Day for persons with Disability and Mr. Muhammad visited the, Carmichael Street location and blessed those children with one hundred tickets to view the tournament.
Mr. Muhammad hands over the tickets to the one of the students in the presence of other members of the institution.
Head teacher of that institution, Anand Mangru, observed the handing over of the gift which was collected by one of the students on behalf of his colleagues and administrators. Mr. Mangru was extremely delighted by the gesture and expressed those sentiments to Mr. Muhammad.
“This is indeed a good gesture especially since it is done on such a momentous day,” said Mr. Mangru. Another student, Kelly Ann Persaud, echoed her headmaster’s sentiments while extending gratitude to the K&S Executive.
Participating schools will be drawn from Linden (4), West Bank Demerara (4), Georgetown (8), East Coast Demerara (4), East Bank Demerara (2), Mazaruni and Berbice (1 apiece).
