– as Regupol commences laying of rubberised surface
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony has promised a completed synthetics track by year end after Germany-based Company Regupol commenced the laying of the track on the asphalt surface at Leonora.
Anthony was reportedly speaking during a visit to the facility yesterday. The laying of the rubberised track has been given a December timeline for completion.
The rubberised surface being laid at the Synthetic Track and Field Facility at Leonora.
“Once we have good weather it will be completed and I think with the installation of the track itself it will be ready for operation…we are happy that we are making this kind of progress,” Anthony was reported as stating.
The track, which commenced construction in 2010 had a number of delays and setbacks over the years and is expected to cost some US$5M to complete the entire facility. The straight, which is closer to the seawall, is completely covered with the synthetic surface while a whole turn was visibly completed. Following the laying of the track, BSW Regupol will spray the lanes.
The surface being laid is a black rubberized surface and once completely laid should be sprayed with the markings of the lanes by German company BSW Regupol which is being headed by Dtetmar Jakel.
“It is a 10 millimeter surface that is 40 metres long and we have to glue it down to the asphalt, then comes the sealer, which should compact the surface, but we need good weather,” Regupol’s Dtetmar Jakel stated yesterday.
