Semifinal slots wide open after Kings survive 56-42 against Bulls, face Raiders tonight
The defending champions Kashif and Shanghai Kings gained a life line win by beating Half Mile Bulls 56-42 Wednesday, but will tonight look to win again to reserve a semifinal berth in this year’s Trophy Stall Regulation Open basketball championship now being played at the Mackenzie Sports Club Hard Court.
Past national Marvin Hartman was on form with 15 points as veteran centre Omally Sampson had 11 and Steve Neils (Jr,) added 10 in the important win for the Kings, while, only fouled out guard Keon Cameron with 12 had a good game for the Bulls as Michael Turner contributed eight in that loss.
However, tonight’s game against the Raiders should be a sterner test than the Bulls game as the battle for a semifinal place is truly on with only the Amelia’s Ward Jets virtually assured of a place having ended on 10 points after winning four and losing two matches in the preliminary round robin aspect of this year’s championship.
At the same time the Raiders can strengthen their hopes with a win as they still have a game in hand, having seven points going into this game, while the Kings with a win can move to nine points as they complete their set of matches.
That Kings/ Raiders match is the second of a double header tonight where the first game at 19:30hrs is between Bankers Trust Falcons, who will conclude their round of matches with this game and are currently on eight points, having three wins and two losses as they take on Block 22 Flames who have two matches remaining, one tonight and the other tomorrow.
The Flames are on six points and will be looking for a favourable result at this stage of the championship which is wide open heading towards the final four.
Tomorrow Raiders take on Flames in the first game and the Pistons and Bulls match skills in the second.
Each win has two points and for a loss it is one point, so the battle is truly on as four places are up for grabs and all the teams at the moment with the exception of the Pistons have a chance of advancing based on the results of each of the four remaining games which wraps up tomorrow night ahead of the planned next Wednesday’s semifinals.
