Guyanese pugilist, Jermaine King commenced his boxing sojourn in the United States of America on an unsuccessful note when he dropped a lopsided unanimous verdict to Valdrin Muriqi when the two clashed at the Resorts World Casino, Queens, New York, USA, Saturday September 21 last.
Two of the judges scored in favour of Muriqi, 40-36, 38-36, while the other gave the fight to King 38-36. Kaieteur Sport spoke with King shortly after he had exited the ring and he admitted that the bout was a bit tough. “First, I’d like to thank God for giving me the health and strength to fight and exit the ring in one piece,” said King. He said that he had injured his hand midway of the second round but bravely continued because he had wanted to commence his North American sojourn on a successful note. “I am satisfied that I put up a good fight despite the injury,” said King. He said that he has taken a lot from the bout and though he lost, he is grateful for the experience gained.
King said that he has received a 2 fights offer starting in November but he first wishes to visit the doctor for a prognosis of the injury before deciding on the way forward. He will be resuming training sessions at the world famed Gleason’s Gym, Front Street Brooklyn.
