Twenty-one year-old Notoya Robinson of Fitness Revolution Gym located on the East Coast of Demerara proved to all and sundry that her performance at this year Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPF) Novices Championships was by no means a fluke.

The physically powerful athlete competing in the 84+kg category (female Junior), carted off the overall Best Female Lifter trophy with a total of 402kg apart from her category at the GAPF Intermediate Championships which were held yesterday at the George Walcott Lecture Theatre, University of Guyana, Turkeyen Campus.
Witnessed by a large, lively and appreciative crowd, the GAPF scored highly for well coordinated and smooth flowing championships at one of the best venues to date. The professional manner in which the day flowed was matched by the performances of the athletes especially on the distaff side.
Robinson, along with the three other females, Steffie DeNobrega, Chittra Ramlochand and Shenella Austin are a breath of fresh air and a major boost for the sport.
The multi talented 19-year-old DeNobrega of Buddies Gym, who is well known for her exploits in the swimming pool and the lightest lifter on the day, was the lone competitor like Robinson in her category – 52kg (Female Junior) – with a total of 225kg.
Facing off in the 72kg Class were Fitness Revolution Gym mates Ramlochand and Austin with the former totaling 312kg to take the first place trophy ahead of Austin whose total was 240kg.
Robinson’s best squat was 165kg, bench press 62.5 and dead lift 175kg; her total Wilks Points was 325.62.
Ramlochand’s achieved a best squat of 137.5kg, bench press 52.5 and dead lift 122.5; total Wilks Points 322.75. DeNobrega put away a best squat of 97.5kg, bench press 37.5, dead lift 90kg; total Wilks Points 302.
Austin who showed wonderful resolve after failing her first two squats made it count on her third attempt, achieving 97.5kg. She then recorded a best bench press of 40kg followed by a dead lift of 102.5; total Wilks 245.75.
