The state owned National Communication Network (NCN) on Thursday 22nd March, 2012 received their sponsorship of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) Under-15 Inter-zone Tournament for the third successive year. The Company’s Berbice Co-ordinator Faizal Jafarally handed over the sponsorship cheque for $202, 000 to treasurer of the BCB Anil Beharry during a simple ceremony in New Amsterdam.

In handing over the sponsorship Faizal Jafarally hailed BCB as a unique organisation which should be emulated throughout Guyana. NCN, he noted was quite satisfied with the organisation of the past tournaments and the high standard of play on the cricket field. He urged BCB to make sure that it does all in its power to maintain the high standard of cricket in the ancient county.
He also challenged the present generation of Berbice Under-15 to strive to follow in the footsteps of Narsingh Deonarine, Assad Fudadin and Devendra Bishoo.
Treasurer of BCB expressed his delight that NCN has once again come on board as an official sponsor. Beharry disclosed that the relationship between BCB and NCN has been very successful as Berbice under their sponsorship won the inter-county tournament.
The tournament would involve the best Under-15 players in Berbice playing for Upper Corentyne, Lower Corentyne, New Amsterdam/Canje and West Berbice. West Berbice will play New Amsterdam/Canje at the Cumberland Ground while the Lower Corentyne will clash with Upper Corentyne at the Area “H” Ground.
The two top teams would collide in the finals scheduled for the Cumberland Ground while the 3rd place match will be played at the Port Mourant Ground. The Berbice Under-15 team will be selected based on performance in the tournament.
Beharry expressed gratitude to the Management and staff of NCN for investing in Berbice Cricket and expressed the hope that the relationship between the two organisations would be long and successful.
