Ramcharitar Construction Services 50 over KO tourney
Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets first division side led by brilliant batting from national player Royston Crandon who blasted 121; Assad Fudadin 75 and Rajiv Ivan 70 cantered into the final of the Ramcharitar Construction Services 50-over knock-out competition after a crushing win over Edinburg.
The match was reduced to 32 overs due to heavy overnight rainfall in the Lower Corentyne area. Edinburgh won the toss and elected to field and enjoyed a good fortune in the second over when National player Delbert Hicks was given out caught at gully off medium pacer Derick Cadogan for a duck, 7-1.
Veteran opener Renwick Batson and National Under-19 player Dominic Rikhi added 40 for the 2nd wicket before Batson was caught for 18 (3×4). Rikhi and skipper Assad Fudadin then added 25 for the next wicket before Rikhi was dismissed for 26.
Fudadin was joined in the middle by fellow National player Royston Crandon and they took the attack to the visitors by adding 75 for the 4th wicket before the inform Fudadin was caught at long on off the bowling of Raid Ally for a well played 70 (9×4,2×6).
Crandon and the aggressive Rajiv Ivan then added 151 for the 5th wicket in just 66 balls with Crandon crafting a magnificent 121 decorated with 12 lofty sixes and 7 spicy boundaries; Ivan was run out for a classy 70 (6×4,4×6) as the home team amassed a mammoth 316 for 5 off their overs.
The bowlers of Giant Killers Edinburgh hardly had any response to the brutal batting of the Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets team. Needing to score at least 10 runs per over, the visitors were never allowed to score at the required rate as the home team pace and spin attack bowled well. Only Yogindra Seepersaud 33 (1×6 2×4), Mark Sampson 21, and Sasenarine Sukhdeo 17 reached double figures as pacer Renwick Batson 2 for 24, Shawn Pereira and Loyydel Lewis 2 for 25 bowled well for the Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets team which has now advanced for the second successive year to the final of the Ramcharitar Construction Services 50-over tournament.
The fate of the other semifinal was scheduled to be decided yesterday afternoon by the Competitions Committee after a protest lodged by Memorex Bermine against Albion Community Centre.
A decision will be made on the way forward with the winner of the game earning the right to play Port Mourant in the second semi final.
