Engineer estimates $8.8M to renovate/build four CJIA washrooms
Two bids have been submitted for the construction of two washrooms in the arrival area of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) Timehri.
The bids submitted at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) for the project were C.B General Contracting Services which submitted a bid of $4, 149, 900 while Joshi Construction & Transport Services tendered a bid for $3,872,458.
The engineer’s estimate for the project is $4,607,066.
The same two companies placed bids for the renovation of two other washrooms at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport. Joshi Construction & Transport Services placed a bid for $3,618,657 and C.B General Contracting Services submitted a bid for $3,603,941.
The engineer’s estimate for this project was $4,211,720.
This set of washrooms is in the duty free concourse at CJIA where passengers check in before boarding their flight.
The tenders were opened on August 30, last.

the present toilets were built/refurbish a few years ago,why can´t we build stuff that will last much lomger
Can’t! Some Guyanese need to share the wealth. This year someone builds a bridge, in three years, his cousin will tear that down and build it back for triple the price and maybe in the next year, someone else will tear that down and build it back for ten times the price–that way plenty People get rich!

KN please double check that engineer’s estimate, perhaps they intended gold plated seats and flush arm – the so called bling bling toilet….. ha ha ha ha
What are they building, gold toilets? One toilet is approx $100.00 US as Muneshwar on Water Street. The sand pit is not far away form the airport to buy sand. So how much is the plumbing? This is such a shame and rip off. People are only trying to fill their pockets.
Guyanese take nore,where is our tax payers monies going. These four toilet which need just some bayclean and toilet detergeant just to look good do not need any renovation.WHERE CAN WE GO FOR THE GOVERMENT TO STOP WASTING OUR MONIES.

I travle a lot.I went ENGLAND,EGYPT,TRINIDAD,ETC….. and you cant tell me in God world what kind of toilet we in GUYANA want to build from the others. Is it a toilet with gold seat,vacume flush,and clean your ass for you ,come on be fair.
This is ridiculous, there are individuals who houses don’t cost this much and just to renovate a couple toilets it is this costly. Arent economics suppse to be applied here? This leaves one pondering on whether or not these toilets would be made out of gold n hv marble finshing or some sort of precious stone. It is understood that it needs to be done bt why so costly…
These guys engineer ways and means to steal the taxpayers money. This is one such design.
I do hope considerations were included to make them handicap accessible. Maybe the contractor can get a tax break. Doors must be wider to accommodate wheel chairs and the necessary bars and suitable furnishings must be included for persons with disabilities. Better yet – an entire washroom both male and female should be in place for the disabled. Move up to the 21st century CJ”international”Airport
Don’t forget the change table for babies. Darn i hope that does not increase the estimate.
Consideration must be made for persons with disabilities. It’s a disgrace in these modern times that the existing facilities cannot accommodate the handicapped and persons in wheel chairs. What “international” airport. That word should be dropped from your moniker forthwith!!!!
