(Kaieteur News) – Three persons have been arrested following an armed robbery which occurred on Thursday at 14 Miles, Issano Landing, Middle Mazaruni River.
According to police, the robbery occurred at approximately 03:00h. The victim, a 30-year-old gold miner of St. Ignatius Village, Central Rupununi, was allegedly assaulted and robbed at gunpoint.
According to preliminary investigations, the victim was at a shop in the area when he was approached by two men, ages 27 and 49, both gold miners from Craig, East Bank Demerara, and West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, respectively.
During the encounter, one of the suspects was reportedly armed with a handgun, and several rounds were discharged. The victim was allegedly assaulted and relieved of his wallet, which contained approximately G$130,000, before the suspects fled the scene on a motorcycle.
He was later found injured and taken to the Mahdia Regional Hospital, where he was admitted. His condition is described as serious but stable.
Acting on information received, police apprehended the two suspects at 14 Miles Backdam.
Further investigations led ranks to another location in the area, where a Glock pistol, one magazine, and three live rounds of ammunition were recovered. A 32-year-old gold miner of Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara, was subsequently arrested in connection with the find.
The firearm, magazine, and ammunition have been lodged pending examination.
