– Eight police stations to be remodelled
Eight more contracts were approved during the most recent cabinet session on Tuesday last. This is according to Head of the Presidential Secretariat and Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Roger Luncheon.
At the time Luncheon was addressing members of the media at his weekly press briefing at the Office of the President yesterday.
In the housing sector, several contracts for the rehabilitation of community roads within the Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) of Regions Three, Four, and Six were given no objections.

Dr. Luncheon explained that the eight police stations – from Sparendaam into Region Five, and on the West Coast of Demerara – will be remodelled in light of new legislation, social concerns and the weaknesses of the police force.
Adding that the stations will also be upgraded to victim-friendly environments, Luncheon said the custodial facilities will be enhanced along with services offered.
Noting the importance of ICT in crime prevention and crime fighting, Luncheon said the stations would need to be remodelled to join the network of police stations that is being created under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
