Kaieteur News – Police destroyed large fields of ganja cultivation during a joint eradication exercise at Kimba, Upper Berbice River, on Friday last.
In a statement police said during the exercise, two fields with a combined area of approximately seven acres were located, on which approximately 310,000 cannabis plants were discovered.
The plants ranged between two and six feet in height. Two makeshift camps and two drying areas were also found at the location, where approximately three hundred and eighty (380) pounds of dried cannabis were discovered.
The cannabis plants, dried cannabis, camps and drying areas were destroyed by fire. No arrests were made and the operation was conducted without incident. The estimated value of the narcotics destroyed is two hundred and fifty-eight million, seven hundred and twenty-nine thousand, three hundred and ten dollars ($258,729,310) Guyana currency. Investigations continue.
