Carifta swimmers pay courtesy call on Minister of Sport
Executives of the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) are bristling with pride following the remarkable achievements of two swimmers, Britany Candacia van Lange and Jessica Rose Stephenson at the just concluded Carifta Swimming Championships.
Yesterday afternoon, the two swimmers, accompanied by several high level Executives of the GASA, paid a courtesy call on Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Dr. Frank Anthony at his Main Street office for in house discussions.
Shortly afterwards, President of GASA, Mr. Alex Graham expressed delight at the achievements of the local swimmers. He said that with the 50 meters pool almost completed coupled with the recent good performances of van Lange and Stephenson, he is optimistic that the sport is poised for a grand take off.
Mr. Graham further revealed that the Colgrain Pool would now be utilized to facilitate Intermediate competitions as well as to tutor aspiring swimmers on the basic aspect of the sport. He admitted that local swimmers had experienced
torrid times when authorities were forced to close the Colgrain Pool to facilitate repairs. With the larger pool almost completed, Mr. Graham envisages improved performances from local swimmers.
Commenting on his discussions with the Minister, Mr. Graham revealed that he has been able to formalize a specified time when GASA will be able to utilize the pool. “This will greatly improve the performances of local swimmers,” he concluded.
