Five Grade 5 students of the Courtland Primary School based in the rural village of Courtland, Fyrish on Sunday last received $50,000 worth of educational and hygiene materials from the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club under the Fifth Annual Edmond Mc Quarrie Educational & Sports Trust Fund.
The activity formed part of the programme of the RHTY&SC Annual Awards Ceremony which was held at the J.C. Chandisingh Secondary School on Sunday last.
The students benefitting are Devon Bagot, Ashley Dey, Leroy Cummings, Keith Simpson and Renaldo Rowe. The Fund is operated by the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club and funded by Mrs. Jean Mc Quarrie in memory of her late husband who was born in Courtland before migrating to the U.S.A.
Assistant Secretary/CEO of the Club, Nermala Sewdat, in remarks noted that over the past five years, over forty (40) students in the Courtland area have benefitted while the school has also received sports gears among other items.
Sewdat challenged the five awardees to stay in school and that they do not only make education a priority but must also get involved in sports as it was a safe avenue from the evil ways of Satan.
Student, Ashley Dey expressed gratitude to the Club and Mrs. Mc Quarrie for their continued investment in the children of Courtland. Mrs. Mc Quarrie advised the awardees to always carry themselves with pride and to aim to become the best in everything they do.
