A number of the country’s top horses will be in action when the Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club and Sports Facility stage a grand one day horserace meet at the club’s West Berbice track tomorrow.
Over 3 million dollars in cash and prizes will be on offer with the feature event, the ‘E and Lower’ being sponsored by beverage giant Ansa McAl.
This race covers 1400m and the winner gallops off with $250,000.
Eight races in all will be run and turfites can anticipate much excitement. The ‘E and Lower,’ ‘G and Lower,’ and the race between the 3 year olds, which are all locally bred, are all set to be keenly contested.
Recently imported animals will also add to the excitement, which include ‘Gold Plated’ and ‘Harry’s Dream’, while other horses on show are Top of The line, Prospector’s Pride, Finishing touch, Irish Girl, Night Crescendo, Fresh Prospect, Super Cat, Home bush Baby and The Gap and Delmur Gold among others.
Races will be run under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA) and all of those rules would be employed.
Despite recent rainfall, the track is reported to be in excellent condition paving the way for explosive events. Additional entertainment will be provided popular music system Stereo sonic. Racing gets underway from 1:30pm.
