Jonathan Sankar was rightly awarded a ‘Most Improved Player’ prize last night after he won the Men’s Singles title against national senior player, Edinho Lewis on the final day of the National Sports Commission’s (NSC) annual Mashramani Championships.
Sankar, who had dismissed national junior player Nigel Bryan in the quarterfinals and a former national senior, Colin France in the semifinal, won 9-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-6 and 12-10 in the final against Lewis, who represented Guyana at the Commonwealth Games.

Bryan was adjudged ‘Most Outstanding Player’ after he cleaned up the Under-18 Men’s Singles draw with 4-1 victory against Denzel Hopkinson; Bryan also won the ‘B’ Class Open title with a 4-0 win against Orin Hickerson and the U-21 Singles when he thrashed Warren Hackshaw also in straight sets.
Bryan then teamed up with Natalie Cummings to win the Senior Mixed Doubles title with an 11-8, 11-5 and 11-5 against Dwayne Dick and Chelsea Edghill. The annual Mashramani tournament was a collaborative event with the Guyana Table Tennis Association.
